RETRACTED: trans-Tetrakis(pyridine)dichloroiron(II) as catalyst for Suzuki cross-coupling in ethanol and water

Aryl bromides can be coupled with phenylboronic acid in moderate to excellent yields using a transtetrakis(pyridine)dichloroiron(II) catalyst. The Suzuki–Miyaura reaction can be carried out under air in ethanol and aqueous ethanol with low catalyst loading. Addition of TBAB dramatically increases the yields in aqueous ethanol or in water. trans-Tetrakis(pyridine)dichloroiron(II) offers an environmental and less expensive method for the synthesis of biaryl compounds. This is the first example of an iron– pyridine catalyst for Suzuki cross-coupling.

A one step enhanced extraction and encapsulation system of cornelian cherry (Cornus mas L.) polyphenols and iridoids with β-cyclodextrin

Abstract The objective of this study was simultaneous extraction and encapsulation of cornelian cherry active principles. As an encapsulating agent, β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) was used to enhance the ultrasound-assisted extraction of cornelian cherry polyphenols and iridoids. Lyophilized cornelian cherry fruit was extracted by four different solvents: pure water, 50% aqueous ethanol (conventional system), 1.5% β-CD water solution and 1.5% β-CD aqueous ethanol solution. The highest enhancement of the extraction efficiency was observed for flavonoids and anthocyanins, especially for cyaniding 3-galactoside and pelargonidin 3-galactoside. Characterization of ethylene oxide/tert-octylphenol condensates by ultraviolet and infrared spectrometry

Abstract The average degree of condensation of ethylene oxide/tert-octylphenol condensate surfactants can be estimated rapidly by u.v. and i.r. spectrometry. The u.v. method is based on evaluating the specific absorptivity, a , at 275 nm in aqueous ethanol (60:40 v/v), and inserting this value in equations obtained from previously characterized samples, relating a to the average properties to be determined.
